Somehow, I got my conservative mother to become a huge fan of
The Daily Show. Forget the 18-35 bracket, even the baby boomers are getting their news from
The Daily Show. I don't know why people are all worked up about this--
TDS is far more critical of the government than mainstream journalism has since Cronkite was anchoring. The best part of the show is the skewering of the headlines at the opening, but the
Dateline-esque interview segments are also good. My Mom watches them with her sore legs up on the La-Z-Boy, hooting at the earnest people.
"Why do these people do this?" She asks, her laughter filling the house.
Apparently, the producers find a weak target, and go in for the kill. Read the sob
stories of Barney Frank and Brian Camenker, two locals who found themselves on one of these segments.
He'll take a bite outta you too, punks.
